How to enjoy biltong
It’s easy to think of biltong as just a snack—ready to eat. It ticks all the essential boxes:

- Easily slips into your bag or pocket
- Without turning into crumbs even after the longest commute.
But why stop there? Consider biltong’s many culinary possibilities. It is a deliciously seasoned, ready to eat snack, which makes it perfect for shredding into sandwiches, flavouring stews, or sprinkling on top of rice or in your salad.
Below are some suggested culinary ways for your biltong:
- Add biltong slices to your soup
- Add biltong slices to your salad
- Add it to your quiche or baked potato in place of bacon
- Add it to your cooked g-nut sauce and simmer for 10 minutes
- Add a tablespoon of cooking oil and fry it on low heat for 5-10 minutes
- Add it to your breakfast alongside your (scrambled, fried or omelet) eggs
- Prepare it as a starter with bread, avocado and cheese
- Make a sandwich (biltong slices, tomato and lettuce)
Storage
Biltong can last up to a year depending on how it has been packaged. When freshly made, biltong can be enjoyed for up to one week, while properly packaged biltong can be kept for a few months. The vacuum sealed biltong has a shelf life of about 1 year and the aluminium foil packaging has a shelf life of 4-6 months.
